Spencer Checketts Bio

Offering listeners a fresh and honest perspective on the world of sports and its effect on our surrounding culture on-air radio veteran Spencer Checketts has spent his entire life in and around professional sports.

Throughout his youth he closely observed some of the finest NBA organizations in the history of the league, starting with the early years of the Utah Jazz and continuing on with the New York Knicks of the 1990's, following his family's move from Salt Lake City to the East Coast in 1991.

Spencer has spent the last decade of his life working in the pro sports industry, garnering experience in a wide range of operational functions. While attending school at the University of Utah, he completed internships with Disney's Wide World of Sports in Orlando, FL (arena/facility management) and the Utah Jazz (public relations).
Spencer also served as a regional scout for the New York Knicks, covering the Mountain West and Big Sky conferences, with the privilege of learning and studying the game under legendary player-turned-scout, Dick McGuire.

At the age of 23, Spencer worked as a venue manager for the Salt Lake Ice Center during the 2002 Winter Olympic Games in Salt Lake City. The "SLIC" housed figure skating as well as short track speed skating and was among the games busiest venues.

Since 2004, Spencer has been a mainstay in the Real Salt Lake Communications Department after his re-location to Salt Lake City, coinciding with RSL's inception. He has worked in promotions, public relations, marketing and advertising for RSL during the organization's four years of existence.

Spencer has spent the last five years learning the sports radio business from the ground up, serving as co-host of "Sports Saturday" on 1280 the Zone, hosting "First Kick" and "Extra Time" (the pre and post game shows for Real Salt Lake) on KALL 700 in addition to post game coverage of all Utah Jazz home games for the Zone. His work on the Jazz post game shows, while covering the NBA as a whole, has earned him the reputation as one of the finest on-air NBA analysts in the market.
